How are your rugs made?
All Woven Edge rugs are hand drawn digitally and hand crafted throughout the manufacturing process so there is a very personal and unique touch given to each rug made.
The Woven Edge’s rugs are produced on upright wooden looms using the centuries-old method of hand-knotting with the Senneh loop as the knotting system. The wool in each rug is a blend of the finest hand-spun New Zealand wool and Bamboo Fibres as an accent to the design. After the yarn is hand-spun, the wool is saturated in Swiss Chrome dyes by the dye-master. Once dyed, they are rolled into a ball and ready for master weavers. After the carpet is woven, it is taken off the loom to be washed, trimmed, and dried. To find out more visit our Rug Process page.

How should I clean my Woven Edge rug?
Rugs from our online shop are made from pure wool and bamboo fibre, so as you can expect they will clean with relative ease.
With any spillage or accident involving liquids, speed is of the essence. Immediately blot with plain paper kitchen towels, soaking up the liquid until dry. Any spillage involving food etc. scrape up the solids with a plastic spatula or knife and then blot up the damp residue with kitchen towels.
If any residue is left, a solution of carpet shampoo and warm water can be used. Carefully blot with a cloth soaked and well squeezed out. Allow to dry and vacuum. Carefully comb the pile in its natural direction to remove any matting. Do not be tempted to throw on anything like salt/soap powder/white wine on red etc. This will only exacerbate the problem.
We would always recommend professional cleaning. Please head to our After Care page to find out more.

Can the rug be dry cleaned?
No. The rugs available to buy on our online shop are 100% wool, bamboo fibre and are cotton backed. We use natural dyes where possible and use natural latex when applying backing making them unsuitable for dry cleaning.

If a piece of yarn pulls out, will my rug unravel?
For our handmade ranges of hand tufted products, Tibetan Weaves and Indo-Nepalese hand knotted rugs, no they will not unravel. Each knot of yarn is separate so will not unravel. If you should find a long or loose yarn, we advise you to clip it off.
Are you rugs hard wearing?
All of the Woven Edge hand tufted rugs are made with hand-spun New Zealand wool, this is the highest quality, most hard wearing and long-lasting wool you can buy. The reason for this is because wool from New Zealand lambs is extremely long so when the fibres are hand-spun they create a long and strong yarn.
We do have recommendations for pre treatment for your Woven Edge rug. Head to the After Care page to find out more.

Is there any variance in colour?
All rugs are hand washed and dyes absorb unevenly so slight variations in the wool make each rug completely unique.
