The Woven Edge are proud members of the GoodWeave Association When you purchase a rug, you can never be sure of its integrity but when you invest in one of our luxury bespoke rugs not only are you purchasing a beautiful, hand-made addition to your home, but you are making an ethical choice too. Our passion is for beautiful rugs, but we also desire a fair and equitable industry – one which aims to eradicate child labour in all its forms. This is the reason we support GoodWeave, and it is why, when you choose one of our luxury rugs, you know that it is free from the unjust labour of a child. We want your purchase to make a positive impact on the global manufacturing of rug producing, which is why all our rugs are GoodWeave certified. But what does this mean? End of child labour 152 million children worldwide are trapped in child labour. We are committed to manufacturing our rugs without the use of children in exploitative working conditions. As members of the GoodWeave association, we support its aims to free the one in 10 children who from aged 5, are labouring in the global economy. Freedom and education for children We believe that all children should have the freedom to play and learn without fear of harm. ‘Carpet kids’ sit at looms, using sharp tools to weave carpets for up to 14 hours per day. They are often under threat of violence and will never get the opportunity to go to school. By purchasing one of our rugs, you are helping us to support programs to free and educate these children. A coherent and consistent standard We adhere to GoodWeave’s certification standard which works to facilitate transparent monitoring and verify decent working conditions in rug producing countries. This includes setting the minimum age of work at 14, preventing young people being employed in hazardous work, and increasing opportunities for education. Raising awareness By supporting GoodWeave we are helping to raise awareness, which results in transparent supply chains and production free from exploitative labor practices. A symbol of certification
Every one of our rugs carries the GoodWeave label, which is issued only to licensed producers selling products to licensed importers. This means that no child, forced or bonded labour was used to make it. As members of the GoodWeave association, our customers know that we take a serious stance on child labour. Our commitment to children’s welfare and worker’s rights is woven into the very fabric of our beautiful rugs. |
