With lockdown soon coming to an end and restrictions gradually easing, we look at how to help yourself adjust back into a normal life that works for you. 1. HOPE FOR THE FUTUREWith the vaccine being quickly rolled out and a ‘road map’ now in place, we can move forward with a proposed structure of dates. Although subject to change, we can at least have an aim of expectation and therefore make a plan to slowly adjust back to a sense of normality. 2. REFLECTAlthough the pandemic has brought great sadness and unimaginable stress, losing loved ones, losing jobs and generally struggling to cope, we can try to look back at this past year and ask ourselves questions like; What have we learned? What did we do that we wouldn’t have done before? What can we take forward? Life cannot instantly change and fall back into place to exactly how we remembered it, so it is best to try not to compare or recreate the past. This will only cause frustration and hinder your thought process to be able to move on. Taking time to reflect is really important on the road to recovery, so take time to sit and note down any worries you may have and try to chat through these with a friend or loved one to help make little steps to overcome any fears or anxiety. 3. IN YOUR OWN TIMEIs it a normal feeling to be worried about what life will be like after lockdown? Whilst some people are poised, ready and raring to hug loved ones, get out of the house and live life to the full, many of us are feeling more apprehensive at the thought of what the new normal will hold and may not want to dive straight back into crowded places. Our mental wellbeing has been of great importance during this pandemic and every individual person has dealt with the situation in their own way. Feeling anxious, emotional or even excited is completed acceptable and we should all take this transition back to pre covid life at our own pace. The virus won’t altogether disappear so this is something we have to accept to live with. The most important thing post pandemic is to respect one anothers feelings and give people the time and space to adjust to what’s comfortable for them in their own time. Peer pressure is not acceptable. We’ve had a year of uncertainty and equally the next year or more will need an aspect of flexibility and understanding to adapt and accept. 4. LOOK FORWARDAlthough it is important to reflect on and learn from the past year it is equally important to look forward and make a plan. Initially, try not to organise anything too far in advance, perhaps look week on week rather than months ahead to avoid overwhelming change or disappointment. Setting unrealistic expectations will only lead to feelings of frustration and failure, so start with little steps. Maybe make a trip to your favourite shop, book a weekend away or even get back to the gym, whatever you enjoy, create a purpose and a routine to ensure you have some sort of focus. Maybe you discovered new hobbies during lockdown? Try to continue with the things that you enjoyed. Keep walking, take time out, get outside and exercise and most importantly keep connected with loved ones. This is all key to achieving happiness. 5. BUSINESS IMPLICATIONSThe pandemic has brought huge unforeseen problems for many companies worldwide. Unfortunately we have had to witness so many historic brands close their doors, watched small businesses struggle and seen the numerous amount of redundancies that follow such difficult times. We are so glad to hear that retail will again open on the 12th of April and hope this kick starts the uphill climb to get the economy back on track. For the Woven Edge, it hasn’t been easy but where and when possible, we have continued to supply custom made rugs throughout the pandemic, supported our manufacturers and kept contact with retailers to help them through these difficult times. Not all business suffered, opportunities arised and new start ups have been born and with this new job opportunities and developments have arised. When safe and when restrictions lift, we look forward to welcoming you back into The Woven Edge studio and hope to see you soon at an exhibition near you. 6. THANKSWe want to take this moment to reflect and remember the lives lost, thank all the NHS staff and the superheroes that gave up their free time to help people less fortunate than them. We really hope our blog helps you start your journey to a new normal so take a moment and step by step, slowly but steadily, we will recover from this.

1. Plan your dayHaving set tasks and a regular routine with help your maintain normality in these uncertain times. Have a list of to do’s and feel the enjoyment of ticking them off one by one. Take breaks. Even taking 10 minutes can make a big difference to a full days work sitting in one spot. 2. Get outsideYou can’t beat the Great British outdoors and although with the current restrictions it is only advised once a day at a safe distance from others, taking a walk outside can really help. Even opening windows for fresh air will keep you awakened and full of ideas. 3. Take care of your eyesYour eyes are one of the most important body parts and especially to the likes of us working in design. Look away from your screen every 20 minutes or so and give your eyes a well deserved break. 4. Ensure you sit correctlyWhere possible, sit at a table or desk on a suitable chair. Ideally your elbows should be at a 90 degree angle with your hands resting flat on the work surface. If adjustment is needed and to reduce the risk of neck strain, ensure screens are level with your gaze. 5. Create a work areaEnsure your work space is seperate to your normal every day living areas. If possible, designate a space for your working environment with plenty of natural sunlight. Add elements that can help de-stress and bring calm to such as plants or pictures. 6. Fuel for your bodyDrink plenty of water throughout the day and always ensure that you take a lunch break away from your work area. Eating healthy snacks will boost energy levels and keep you going until home time.

Read our latest blog and you’ll discover that many of our key interior trends for 2019 offer a way to update existing looks at home, such as “Back to Bohemian”, or “Organic Matter”. This means you don’t have to redecorate your whole home to be on trend, just a few tweaks and you’ll keep ahead of the design curve.
ANIMAL PRINT.
Animal print in all it’s variation continues to be a popular pattern in both fashion and interiors. Abstract versions of this classic trend gives us a different look with mirrored effects, fragmented form and striped design to break up bold pattern.

TECHNOLOGICAL STATEMENT.
The digital age has moved on beyond what we may have thought possible, making pattern design a paradise and playground for designers to create new looks. Trends see us using printing techniques more, allowing greater colour capability with purposefully pixelated edges. From this we can get photographic prints onto all sorts of substrates whilst linear overlays add movement with multidirectional pattern giving a modern alternative to woven material.

IN CHECK.
Vibrant overlays of colour bring all varieties of checks to life. Mix these with traditional colour combinations to modernise staple tartans and use chunky yarn to emphasise stripes. If you don’t dare to go bold keep things tonal or monochrome to give a subtle nod to this key trend.

We have also included links to the rugs we currently have in stock - so no lead time, these can be delivered in just 48 hours! What's not to love!
WILD
This trend allows nature to take back the landscape to it’s untouched and untamed beauty. Purposefully left to regenerate wildlife and natural habitats has been of great importance to balance out our busy urban city lifestyle and sustain a greener future for generations to come. Boundaries are blurred where indoors and outdoors come together for a sense of peace and mindfulness. Indoor plants have soared within
home interior trends and have been proven to create a happier living environment. #planteriordesign. The idea of city forests have taken focus in our ever growing awareness of our surroundings. Colours are earthy but soft with clay, terracotta and rust adding a contrast of warmth against brighter tones of forest green, moss and verdigris. Textures are rustic and make use of natural elements of stone, wood and vegetation. Crackled surfaces of worn and weathered elements allow for abstract colour movement and oxidised effects.
STORY
Tracing routes back to a cultural heritage of nostalgic times, designs take a worldly influence whilst still remembering individual personality. Designs have an aged look with textures of weathered wood and stone layered up with patterns of decorative blooms and botanical elements. Faded prints of flora and fauna embrace a vintage look often drawn with linear qualities to give more of a simplistic graphical look. Colours include a bright and cheery ochre, mahogany, marine blue, cardamon, greige, sail white, brass and haint blue.
SOLACE
Minimal design takes on organic abstract style within this Solace trend. Layers of natural elements creating landscaped pattern. A considered palette of almost neutral tones; blue now being a close third behind cream ones and grey keep a balance of tone, not being too bold or too brash in contrast. Harmonising is key with colours bleeding into one another for subtle change. A search for silence is described with Antarctic reference of white space and soft texture. Grey tones of haze and storm sit alongside purple infused twilight blue and amethyst grey with only maroon making any difference of colour impact.
VIBE
Colour and light is the centre focus for this trend where experimental clashes of pattern create high contrast and a curiosity to discover more. Designs make use of simple polka dots, bright accents and black outlines creating a very pop art style.
Our latest "Construct Collection" is completely on the Vibe trend. These stunning and dramatic, modern designs create a brilliant talking piece and really add the wow factor to any hall way or contemporary styled home. Finally we have seen the sun for the first time this year and colour has burst into action and opened our eyes to key trends. Pantone has demonstrated key pops of colour reflecting recent exhibition and trend direction from Heimtex and London Design Week amongst various other shows so far in 2018. Embracing bright colour will be the standout trend for Spring 2018 and the Pantone palette features in our blog Top Tips for a Luxurious Living Room. ![]() London Design Week Highlights. The trends brought to us by the showrooms of Chelsea Harbour this spring, bring us sophisticated and intricate design with a wealth of confidence in bright colour and bold print. The depth and attention to detail stands up to further scrutiny rewarding your eyes upon their second look. Neutrals are brought to us in natural, unbleached materials such as sea grass, wool, slubbed silks and cottons with a celebratory splash of champagne to add some class. Metallic tones of silver and stone greys pair well with mineral and elemental inspired palettes of green malakite and peridot, showing the first shoots of spring greens. Other dominant accents brought us shades of yellow including butter milk, mustard and ochre. Indigo, teal and peacock blues will be big and pair up well with a warmth brought by coral through to rouge and burnt orange. With sunshine hopes for spring and summer come playful but subtle ice cream tones of raspberries, mint, vanilla and pistachio as shown below in our colour stories London Craft Week returns to the capital for its fourth edition and tickets for the special event are available here http://dcch.co.uk/London-Craft-Week-2018. 'Reflecting a rising global appreciation of exceptional craftsmanship, it attracts a discerning audience united in their admiration of beauty, substance and authenticity'... if the hand crafted look is for you check out how our rugs are made https://www.thewovenedge.com/rug-making-process.html. Watercolour and painterly feels are still apparent, easy on the eye and fresh with texture flowing on all levels. Marbled effects, cloudy treatments, washed out bleeds and ikat influences extend the trend surrounding indigo dyed products and handmade techniques. These handmade elements mixed with recycled goods really highlight current world issues and just shows how much influence on interior trends this can create.
Spring Has Sprung Combinations of green tones and pastel shades of lilac inspired lavender and blue are a combination born to be together. They bring meadow inspired interiors and accentuate the need for foliage inside our homes. Farrow and Ball have created a refreshing look using their Pitch Blue, no.222 and Calke Green, No.34 giving us a real countryside inspired decorative scheme. http://www.farrow-ball.com ![]() An Ice Cream Cone full of Colour Choose your flavour and sprinkle a joy of pastel shades over the top to mix and match shades of coral, pale blue, lilac grey and peach. The power of pastel is strong and injects lightness and a calming sense into a room. We have seen this flood not only into the interiors market but the catwalk too, really bringing fashion to floor. Use multiple shades combined with simple abstract forms of floral and fauna to add some contrast. https://www.celine.com/en-gb/home/ ![]() The Perfect Imperfect Having a focus on the revival of handcrafted products, 2018 has seen an influx of the changing of attitudes towards the effects we have on the planet and from this we have a new found acceptance for perfect imperfection and the recycling and reuse of materials such as plastic and rubber. Deriving from Japanese cultures of wabi sabi its all about bringing nature back home and being content with whats we have. Handmade crafts such as shibori and woven products are brought back to life within this trend. ![]() Heimtextil 2018 incorporated this movement as one of their future trends. It is the art of finding beauty in the something that is incomplete and not conforming to what is believed to be pure. ![]() The Power of Pigment. Red and Blue Graduations of blue and red use as tone on tone colour palettes are big news. Design is kept simple with layers of contrasting scales of light and dark gradations of colour.
Cherry Tomato and Palace Blue from Pantones collection of Spring Summer 2018 colours show us the brightest sides of these bold hues. Red is seen to be the relaxing influence coming across as confident but soft, whilst Blues encourage energy being uplifting and fresh. Dior seen on the catwalk, combines multiple trends of translucent layers with a reflective edge of molecular design in a rich and appropriately royal blue colouring. BERLIN, GERMANY. Taking influence from traditional Japanese design, certain shrines and gates use these warm tones of orange and are believed to obstruct magical powers and evil spirits. Handmade bowls and creased linens are a must, so leave your show home worries behind and embrace this eastern trend.
